Exercises in Rational Thought is a collection of timeless wisdom from a wide variety of thinkers that emphasizes how we should go about thinking, rather than simply telling us what to think.
Dr. Carl Sagan always made it a point, both in his writings and his lectures, to promote the concept of thinking scientifically rather than running experiments and regurgitating facts from a textbook. I think this is incredibly important, and it is an idea that is lost in our current system of education today: We don’t place enough emphasis on teaching students how to think skeptically, how to distinguish between fact and fiction, and most importantly, how to ask the right questions and think independently.
These are all topics that are touched upon in Exercises in Rational Thought.
